“ I’ve visited this place twice and tried dishes like ramen, karaage don, and salmon sushi roll – all the food was delicious. I highly recommend the cheesy takoyaki as well! The level 1 spiciness for the ramen was just right for me. All the staff were friendly. It’s the best Japanese restaurant I’ve been to in Brisbane. I’d love to visit again. ”
“ Such a delightful restaurant with amazing food and staff. I have been coming here with my hubby for past six months every week and we love this place. Also we love supporting local businesses. ”
“ In a suburb better known for its cafés and casual eats, Takakura in Manly West quietly stands as a jewel of Japanese dining—one of those rare establishments that locals treasure and, once discovered, you feel compelled to tell everyone about. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with the kind of warmth that feels almost familial. The waitstaff are not only attentive but genuinely friendly, striking that delicate balance of professionalism and approachability. Even the chef greets diners with a smile, reinforcing the sense that this is as much a community hub as it is a restaurant. But it is the food that truly sets Takakura apart. Each dish arrives remarkably quickly—without ever feeling rushed—and the freshness is undeniable. Sashimi that seems to have leapt from the ocean only moments earlier, tempura with a feather-light crunch, and delicately balanced sushi that speaks of mastery and restraint. There’s no over-styling here, just clean, precise flavors delivered at their peak. The surprise, however, is that Takakura is also home to one of the most impressive sake collections in the country. With five of the finest sakes available in Australia, the drinks list alone warrants a visit. Whether you’re a connoisseur or simply curious, the staff guide you with enthusiasm, making the experience as educational as it is enjoyable. What lingers after the meal is not just satisfaction but affection: the sense that you’ve dined somewhere special, where hospitality and craft are taken seriously without a trace of pretension. Takakura is more than just a restaurant—it’s a local institution in the making, one that rewards both the loyal regular and the first-time visitor. ”
“ A really nice suburban Japanese restaurant. The portion sizes are really good and the food quality was quite nice. However my pork cutlet was kind of lukewarm not hot. Other than that, it was a really lovely experience and the staff were very accomodating and polite. We will probably come back, just make sure your pork cutlets are hot! Thanks! ”
“ I've been to this restaurant four times now, and I keep coming back because the food is consistently great. I've tried a lot of different dishes, and everything has been fresh, well-portioned, and delicious. The salmon is always fresh, and the food comes out quickly. The restaurant is clean and comfortable, and the staff are really friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. I’d definitely recommend the Salmon Lover and the ramen. Both are excellent. Poke and desserts(especially matcha ice cream) are really really yum. The takoyaki and karaage are also really tasty. I wanna visit here every week. Great food and great service. Highly recommend! I really love this restaurant ”
“ What a gem of a place. The menu had so many amazing options it was hard to decide! I got the katsu done with onion mayo and was absolutely delicious! The service was impeccable and the lady was extremely friendly and bubbly. Wished this place was closer to home will definitely be back 10/10 ⭐ ”
